Spiritual Mentors

Spiritual mentors are clergy or laity who are prepared to pray with and for their mentee (the person receiving spiritual direction) as both seek to listen for God in the life of the mentee.  Bishop Cozzens believes, “Having a spiritual mentor or director can help you enter more deeply into a relationship with God than you could on your own.”  In his pastoral letter, New Life Through the Tender Compassion of Our God, Bishop Cozzens urges the  laity to seek spiritual direction because, “The spiritual life is not meant to be walked alone.  Sharing with someone what you hear God saying can help strengthen and confirm His work.”
 
When you meet with a spiritual mentor (sometimes called a spiritual director), your time together begins in prayer and then your mentor may ask you about your relationship with God, your prayer life, your sacramental life, or perhaps how you understand your life as a child of God.  This is not counseling or an advice-giving session.  Rather, your mentor meets with you so that you can reflect on how God is moving in your life and your openness to the life as a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ.
 
There are about 20 people in the Diocese of Crookston who have been prepared to be spiritual mentors.   Some of their names are listed below.   If you with to be placed in contact with a spiritual mentor, you may email Deacon Mark Krejci ([email protected]) or reach out to one of those listed below.   In addition, you may wish to reach out to a religious order who often have people who serve as spiritual mentors, typically offering sessions via zoom.
