About CRS Rice Bowl
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the international relief and development agency of the U.S. Bishops. CRS Rice Bowl is its Lenten catechetical and sacrificial giving program. It was an initiative started by Catholics in the United States who wanted to respond to the scarcity of food in Africa.
About the CRS Rice Bowl Collection
The money collected from CRS Rice Bowl is provided by the generous and sacrificial giving of many throughout the Diocese of Crookston and throughout the world. 75 percent of the collection is submitted directly to CRS for use in international aid and funds development projects in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America to produce more food, increase income and address poverty.
The remaining 25 percent of this total amount stays in the Diocese of Crookston and goes toward projects and programs that work to alleviate hunger and homelessness in Northern Minnesota.
Administration of the local Rice Bowl funds
Pastors, Evangelization/Social Justice Committees, youth groups, charitable organizations, food pantries and assistance programs are invited to apply for support that aid efforts in helping local families and individuals experiencing hunger and poverty in this very diocese.

Please note: Organizations which receive Rice Bowl funds in 2020, will submit a simple written report, by March 1, 2021 explaining the use of the grant.

How are donations used?
Driven by our faith, we are committed to help those in need no matter where they may live. In that spirit:
75 percent of your gift supports CRS’ programs around the world. Some examples include:
Agriculture projects help farmers improve harvests
Water and sanitation projects bring clean water to communities
Microfinance projects support small businesses
Mother and child health projects offer health and nutrition services
Education projects provide resources and training
